In September 2003, the American Board
of Otolaryngology elected Dr Khosh to a two-year term on
the item writers' task force. Dr Khosh will write board
examination questions pertaining to the subspecialty of
facial plastic surgery.
In September 2003, Dr. Khosh and Dr. DeSerres
presented a paper describing the 10-year experience of Children's
Hospital of New York in pediatric facial trauma. Their presentation,
at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Facial
Plastic Surgery in Orlando, outlined the patterns of facial
and cranial trauma in the level 1 pediatric trauma center
of Columbia University. Dr. Khosh and Dr. DeSerres described
differing patterns of facial trauma as related to patients'
age and degree of bony facial development.
In August 2003, Dr. Khosh participated
as an instructor for a course in St. Louis University, titled
"Advances in cosmetic blepharoplasty, and brow and midface
lift". The course was designed as a hands on workshop in
the latest techniques for cosmetic upper and midface rejuvenation.
In July 2003, Dr. Khosh was the invited
speaker at the teaching conference for the Department of
Emergency Medicine at the St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital
Center. Dr. Khosh's talk, entitled "Emergency management
of facial trauma", was aimed at educating the participants
about the initial evaluation, appropriate radiographic testing,
and proper sub-specialty consultation in management of facial
trauma victims.
In May 2003, Dr. Khosh presented a paper
on a novel technique for harvesting ear cartilage during
the annual spring meeting of the American Academy of Facial
Plastic Surgery Society in Nashville, TN. This method of
cartilage harvesting minimizes pain and discomfort that
can ensue from surgery. Ear cartilage is frequently used
as a graft in nasal reconstruction and cosmetic surgery.
In March 2003, Dr. Khosh participated
as an instructor for the annual symposium of facial plastic
surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New
Jersey. His presentation titled "Functional Eyelid Reconstruction",
reviewed the anatomic high lights of the eyelid and described
the current techniques for repair of traumatic and cancer
ablative defects of the eyelid.
In January 2003, Dr. Khosh has been elected
as the treasurer for the New York Society of Facial Plastic
Surgery. The New York Society of Facial Plastic Surgery
is an association of cosmetic and reconstructive surgeons
from the Tri State Area dedicated to promotion of excellence
in their specialty area.
